Senior Software Engineer, Machine Learning

#artificialintelligence

Carbon Re is an AI research and development company dedicated to reducing gigatonnes of CO2 from humanity's emissions each year. We are focused on the energy intensive manufacturing industries; cement, steel, glass, etc., which are responsible for approximately 20% of global emissions and are referred to as'hard-to-abate industries' for which there is currently no viable path to decarbonisation. Our mission is to develop Machine Learning products and solutions that can enable rapid decarbonisation of these industries. Initially this will involve improving and optimising the current manufacturing process but in the long term we aim to rethink and redesign these manufacturing systems for net-zero and accelerate the development of new climate-friendly materials and processes. As an experienced engineer in our Machine Learning team, you will lead the improvement of our recommendation engine by improving our models and developing better optimisation systems.

Intel takes responsibility for AI

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is typically portrayed in two diametrically opposite ways; it is either the great hope for business technology, or AI is an existential threat to the way we live. As is often the case, the middle way is closer to the truth. Other than some mooted regulations from the European Union, AI, just like social media, is growing so rapidly that the technology industry itself will need to pioneer the ethical standards that enable AI but also protect civil liberties. With its research and development history, Intel has been one of the first big tech firms to define the foundations of ethical AI. Launched last month, the Intel Responsible AI charter sets out the chip giant's perspective on responsible AI and the four pillars the firm says the technology industry can use to ensure AI succeeds not only for technologists but also for wider society.

Building Safer and Empowered Society with Artificial Intelligence

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence has been growing since its inception in 1956. It has then grown from a simple concept to one of the leading elements in today's technology-driven world. In the present day, almost all technologies are based on artificial intelligence, ranging from self-driving cars to actual robots in development. We have virtual assistants who can effectively converse with us, as well as control the electronic devices of our houses. Artificial intelligence is a term that is rapidly growing with technology, and vice versa.

Getinge's New Torin Artificial Intelligence Solution Improves Hospital Efficiency

#artificialintelligence

The introduction of the Torin Artificial Intelligence (AI) functionality is designed to improve efficiency in managing schedules for surgical procedures and comes in the wake of a new Getinge survey. Among the participating hospitals 41% report significant backlogs and only 44% have implemented new digital tools that can improve proficiency in OR scheduling and patient management. Getinge, a leading global provider of products and solutions that contribute to quality enhancement and cost efficiency within healthcare and life sciences, now introduces Torin with AI in the United States. The company also announced results from a landmark survey of hospital executives and surgeons in the U.S. showing hospitals are taking steps to speed up OR turnover times, hire new staff and require staff to work longer hours to address backlogs. "For almost 18 months during the COVID-19 pandemic, both surgeons and patients made decisions to defer many forms of surgery if possible. As more patients feel confident about considering surgery, demand to schedule procedures at all types of hospitals and surgery centers has exploded in recent months," says Eric Honroth, President, North America at Getinge.

Artificial intelligence, smart urban management on show - SHINE News

#artificialintelligence

Shanghai-based artificial intelligence companies and the latest adoptions for smart urban management will be highlights at the Exposition on China Indigenous Brand at the Shanghai Exhibition Center starting Monday. Shanghai Fokan Technology Co, which specializes in graphic encoding and data-mining capability with its own high-resolution camera with resolution of 1 billion pixels, is presenting its products and solutions. By combining the algorithms and hardware for surveillance video cameras, it aims to become the data channel for a wide variety of applications related to artificial intelligence. Based on research projects at Fudan University and the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics of the Chinese Academy of Science, it's now offering airport smart management solutions at two dozen domestic airports by bringing scattered video surveillance footage in an integrated real-time data platform. Fokan Tech said it managed to build cutting-edge optic sensors and image recognition algorithm into one single smart camera which can detect images of humans, vehicles and aircraft within four square meters.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning: A new blueprint for the fintech industry

#artificialintelligence

There is no doubt that artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) is becoming a hot topic within the fintech industry. At almost every seminar and conference, we are hearing about the rise of these emerging technologies and the potential they have to disrupt businesses. It's clear that AI and ML is a blueprint within which the fintech industry is operating. However, what is apparent is that no matter how much fintechs bang the drum of the impact of AI on enterprises, it still remains underutilized by many companies due to their inability to visualize, integrate and adopt these new technologies. Recently, there has been a great deal of conversation across multiple industries around the potential of these technologies, but according to research by Accenture, 87 percent of business leaders in the UK are struggling with how best to adopt it.
